February Update

Update for the February 2021 period, including latest regarding event cancellations.

The DBHS Annual Cheese and Wine Evening did not take place in February, because, you’ve guessed it, Covid restrictions. It is all very sad, but Catering for our members at a Cheese and Wine was just not going to happen in the current situation. There was, however, a quiz circulated with the Grapevine, the DBHS monthly newsletter to keep the spirit of the Annual Cheese and Wine going. It is a straightforward quiz with 25 cryptic clues, the answers to which are all trees. The closing date is 5th March 2021 and there is a prize.

The March meeting, on Friday 5th March 2021, was to be a presentation about Cacti and Succulents by Robin Arnott, a DBHS member for many years. Robin exhibits at the DBHS Annual Show, as well as other shows, and his knowledge of the subject is vast. Unfortunately, this has been cancelled. Maybe we will catch up with him in March 2022.

I do hope we can get back to some kind of normal at some point in 2021. The Committee is thinking about the Annual Show. It is in September but the decision to hold it or not has to be made by the end of February. Sponsors and Advertisers have to be contacted and all agreed and set up by the middle of March, so that a schedule can be printed. We could have a virtual show of some sort, I suppose. Something to consider.

The “Jobs for” February part of the DBHS report is on the tips page to see what jobs you should be doing at this time of year.

Sincerely,

Michael Gourlay
